The city of South Bend Indiana has installed Round A Bouts and is installing more. A good idea, IN EUROPE!!! These people here do NOT KNOW HOW TO USE THEM!! They Stop EVERYWHERE!! IN THE ENTRANCE, IN THE CIRCLE and wait for people to enter!! Some go round and round, some go the wrong way! Some exit the wrong way into on coming traffic! Silly People! or just plain STUPID?????

Indiana is a great place ...

Indiana is a great place to live....South Bend, Ft. Wayne, Indy. Loved the few years I lived there and still get to go visit once in awhile. As far as the roundabouts go, once people figure out how to use them, they will be well worth it. Give it time.

Round abouts can be pretty ...

Round abouts can be pretty tricky to use at first but have no fear they do get easier to use! And believe it or not they do keep traffic moving when used properly. As long as they're not built at major intersections I'm all for them.

no, no. its indiana. ...

no, no. its indiana.

:-D im just having fun with you.

I have no idea what you're ...

I have no idea what you're talking about!?!

What in the world is a round-about?

A round about is another ...

A round about is another term for a traffic circle, a horror of road engineering that is thankfully becoming extinct.

AMEN! A nearby city is putting a double lane round about at each end of a major artery bridge. Should be rather entertaining when they are finished. There are a dozen or so in the area, mostly far out in the suburbs. I don't feel that they've been used enough by the general population in the area to make a round about effective in the situation which they are using it. Warm up the ambulance boys, its gonna be a busy day....

Traffic circles suck. They ...

Traffic circles suck. They are old technology that just does not work well with high traffic flows. We have one near here and it has a restaurant by it. The only thing it is good for is to sit and eat while watching the traffic backup as six streets merge. The only reason it still exists is because it is considered an historic site!!

We have round-a-bouts in ...

We have round-a-bouts in Alaska, and I think I know the problem with yours in Indiana.
When they made our first round-a-bout they designed it identical to the ones in Europe. The one thing they didn't think about was how much smaller the cars are in Europe! Everyone hates the first one, and bigger trucks just fly through it trying to get out of the way for all the cars.
We recently gained a second round-a-bout in town, and it was designed for an 18-wheeler to be able to use it. Needless to say, no problems with it.

Talk to the city where it is, make sure they realize it's USA, not Europe, and we don't drive little compact clown cars, we drive BIG SUVs!!

My opinion

They might be great in some place, but in our society, I think they're an excuse for people that don't wanna stop..refuse to abide by the yield signs..wanna drive fast, etc.  We have several in a city near here and they're a pain in the rear.  Maximum speed limit on them is (I've head) 15 mph.  Yeah right.  Stay in your lane??  Yeah sure.  Yield...Mmmhmmm!!  Too many people yapping on their cell ones and not paying attention...couldn't care less about other drivers and just getting where they need to go while driving like speed demons on them.

Bottom line..I avoid them every chance I can.
