Drives Me Crazy
One of my biggest pet peeves are drivers who stop too far away from the car in front of them while stopped at a light. This is most annoying if the offending car(s) are in the left turn lane because it causes cars that get in behind them to stick out into thru lanes, impeding the flow of traffic. I always look over and of course the people are either eating, reading, putting on makeup and of course yapping on the phone!

Actually I do this and it saved me rear ending someone last week when I got rear ended.

I agree with leaving some room and not getting right on someone's bumper, even I do that, however, I've seen drivers stopped back as far as 3-4 car lenghts from the car in front of them simply because they aren't paying attention.
I have heard that if you ...
I have heard that if you are stopped, and someone runs into you from behind, then you are responsible for the vehicle directly ahead of you. Leaving a large space might not be a bad idea. On another note, I always try to make sure there is enough room for me before pulling across and leaving my tail hanging out.
Leaving space between cars ...
Leaving space between cars drives me crazy too. No it is not true that you would be liable for damage to a car in front of you if you were rammed from behind. It's the first car that would be responsible for all the damage, if at fault. Certainly, leaving 3-4 car lengths is ridiculous, particularly at or adjacent to filter lanes, or in heavy traffic where space is a premium.

I don't get real close to the car in front of me when stopped at a stop light. But I certainly don't allow 3-4 car lengths in front of me...that irritates me too. I noticed that most people that do that are older.
Actually, it depends on ...
Actually, it depends on the state, but in some cases, yes, you are the one at fault if a car rear ends you and you end up rear ending another car. My grandfather had that happen to him and he ended up with it going on his insurance and he got a ticket.
What kind of f@ck&d up ...
What kind of f@ck&d up law is that? You have to pay and be fined for getting rear-ended because the other person was moving so fast toward a stopped vehicle that they sent it flying into the next one?? WTMF!!!!!
