Digital Camera Breaking
I had a Kodak digital camera that I loved. The lens cover stopped opening, so the stupid thing wouldn't work any more. I wanted to get it fixed. The MINIMUM to get it fixed was $150 plus shipping and handling. Thus I bought a new one. I bought a Nikon. It really pissed me off that it was more expensive to get it fixed than it was to get a new one.
I remember my parents getting their toaster fixed. Now it seems like we live in such a throw-away society that we replace things rather than repair them!

Funny you should say that. ...
Funny you should say that. I almost took my $.99 hammer to it when I saw how much they wanted to fix it.
<p>As a pro photographer I ...
As a pro photographer I make it my business to know the best repair people and they are usually the most affordable, by far. If I had known I'd have sent you to Herb Scott of Scott's Camera Repair. He ROCKS!
Herb is certified for manufacturer warranty repair in EVERY major brand (Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Kodak, I think Pentax and others). He has charged me zero on a few occasions (I INSISTED on giving him something anyway, had to INSIST) and as little as $5 for while-I-waited repairs that other places wanted a minimum standard charge of $100-$150 AND 21 days to get it done. Herb also has this little knack known as doing it right every time first time. He guarantees his work. Others do not.
Next time get with me about it and I'll give you his contact info. He takes work shipped to him and gives most fair rates for estimates that he rolls into the repair fee if you have him do the work.
I think places charge so ...
I think places charge so much to get you to buy new products, its a thinly veiled sales ploy.
wow, TGIX, I JUST sent off ...
wow, TGIX, I JUST sent off a Pentax digital cam to them in Colorado and I just got an estimate TODAY for it and yeah, JUST like madabout, the part is 82.00 and labor is 80.00 plus 10.00 for shipping for a total of 172.00!!! NOT to mention the 10.00 it ALREADY took me to send it to them!!! same prob too, the cam won't come on and the lens won't open either!
SO if you think it's worth it maybe I can send it to your guy!
OUCH!! $150 bucks to get ...
OUCH!! $150 bucks to get a Kodak fixed?? That's nuts!!
I love our little Kodak MD853 Easyshare!! Got it the day after Thanksgiving for a mere $90 bucks for an 8.2 megapixel with video capabilities (Reg price $150). I've taken tons of pics with it and the battery holds a charge lots longer than many of my friend's more expensive digitals..and the battery charger was less than $10 bucks!! Best thing about it is that you plug the phone in just like you'd plug in a cell phone and it's charged up in a matter of 20 minutes!!
I'm not much of a camera buff but to me, it takes great pics, and the viewfinder is nice and big (plus very clear).
I know whatcha mean about a throwaway society!! Our portable phone battery took a crap (the phone itself was fine), so I went to get a new battery for it....$12.99!! I bought a brand new phone for $15!!
Have you guys noticed too all the products (namely computer printers) out there that have these "fix it yourself" websites? Doesn't it always seem like none of the troubleshooting fixes apply to your problem at hand?? But for a mere $45 bucks, you can talk to a customer service individual that will gladly help you with your problem...(and most of the time when you call them..they're out of the country and the individual is reading from an on screen menu...probably the SAME one you just read at the "fix it yourself" site!)
LOL!! What a ripoff!!
yeah, I have an easyshare ...
yeah, I have an easyshare Kodak too, the Pentax is for my sis-in-law, I sent it off for her and she prob WON'T want to get it fixed either, NOT for 172.00!! I think she spent 200.00 on it brand new!!
