The Boss From HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok peevers, I need your help. I have a boss from hell, and I don't know what to do about her!
Yesterday I had to go to the immediate care center because it became hard to swollow and my right hand side of my neck started to swell up really bad. Well, they determined that I have strep throat, an ear infection in both ears and a sprained neck. The doctor put me on bed rest for 48 hours.
Well, here is where it gets nasty. I sent my boss a text message telling her that I wouldn't be in today (I have Thursday off for the holiday) and would return on Friday. She told me she didn't care about the doctors note and that I will be here tomorrow and she will determine from my appearance if I am sick enough to be at home or not. Needless to say, I am sitting here at work right now writing this to you all.
Remember my boss is an Army Captain. I am contracted to the Army for use as a secretary. I have talked with my contracting company, and they don't know what they can do.
So, can you help me find some sort of law out there that protects workers when they are sick and their doctors put them on bedrest for 48 hours, can supervisors make workers come to work against a doctors order?
I have plenty of time off in the bank to request (56 sick time hours, 88 vacation hours), so that isn't the issue. The captain is just being a bitch because of the fact that she doesn't want to have to work, I know that is the real reason.

Report her, report her, report her! If there's retaliation, report that too. Keep reporting! That's why there are bosses like that-no one does anything. A former boss told me that 99% of the time things aren't being done about people like that is that they don't know about it BECAUSE NO ONE TELLS THEM! Don't worry about being a pain-keep reporting. If they threaten you if you keep reporting, then report them! Just be relentless. Good luck!

Wow, that sucks!! How can she have someone with strep (saying so in a DOCTORS NOTE) come in!? That's a risk to everyone not to mention your own health by being out and about working. I agree, report her. That's completely rediculous to do!

girlfriend, YOU HAVE A DR'S NOTE!!! that's all you need!!!! tell that bitch to kiss your ass, then maybe she'll get sick too and see how it feels! and don't even let them screw you out of holiday pay, cuz you normally have to be there the day before AND after a holiday to get paid for the holiday. if you ARE at work, I'd leave! or better yet, breathe and spit all over a glass then go put some water in it for her to drink from so she can see how "sick" you are!

Its a tough spot you're in. Is there some sort of employee handbook you could check for the medical policy? Unfotunatley you're dealing with the Militray which have thier own way of doing things.
Go in to the office and make sure you're as in her face as much as possible, maybe she'll get sick too. Make sure you breathe into her phone, take a sip of her coffee, and cough into your hands then touch everything she would handle.

If you have strep..you are contagious. An md's note should suffice.
The thing that gets me in this day and age is...if you're sick..you should stay home, yet many employers think you should just tough it out while making the rest of the office sick in the process.
I work for an MD and see this crap all the time..people crowding the waiting room with simple things such as a cold..the flu..etc...just because they need a note from the doctor so they can return to work.
Then there are others with strep that our MD's will write a note for and TELL them that they can't go back to work for 48 hours.....yet they'll go back to work anyway...while turning in the excuse after they've contaminated the entire office simply because they need the money...
Our MD's are already overworked and there are people that call in sick repeatedly who come into our office with Medical Assistance cards while our MD's repeatedly have to write doctor's notes saying, "Anna was seen in our office today........"
That's all they can say due to HIPPA laws (Health Information Patient Privacy Act)...
We've seen patients claiming a migraine when we know damned well they were out the night before...along with patients with fevers that just needed bed rest.
This crap of needing a doctor's excuse is ludacrist. Most of the MD's that I work for will write an excuse saying that the patient was SEEN in our office..but that they NEED to go back to work that same day..thus..it tends to weed through those that abuse the system.
