this very really came close to making me puke
I was doing fine, having a nice evening, relaxing after a VERY nice day at work (learned a gal I LOVE is joining my department - she's married but I mean she's just going to be Awesome to work with directly, from El Salvador and nice and short but harder working then any 6 foot tall 200 lb guy there ever was.) anyway, just saw a blip on the TV, a little new channel commercial tease about the news coming at 11 (It's after 11 but I'm watching this on the DVR recorded earlier). The blip was about a teacher accused of sexually abusing a student and then the blip showed a super short shot of what I was sure was my old middle school. I rewound and had to forward frame by frame it was so short but there it was as I thought I'd seen it - my middle school. Back then, it was "experimental" in more than one way and it was one of, if not the first, jr. high's to be dubbed "middle school". Now, as I understand it, that's what they call them all over the country. Anyway, I don't know who the teacher/accused abuser was but it just pisses me off so bad. You hear about these things and it's always somewhere else. Until it hits home so close you just see it as some horrible thing going on in the news. When it jumps out at you this close though, then you think, "shit, it's Really Real!"
On a completely other note though I ran in to my old high school gym and football coach this morning. He was my coach in the late Seventies and I heard he just now retired. I said hi and told him who I was in case he didn't remember. I mentioned my two very athletic nephews who are graduating there at the same school next week. And I said how remarkable it was that he stayed with it this long, must really love it. He sure did and said he retired once but asked him to come back for two weeks and two weeks became two years. LOL! He looked great too, a coach with all the energy he had back then - that's what my nephews tell me, yells and carries on and wears shorts even in the winter and runs up and down the sideline - Runs at the age of 80!!! His assistant coach back then has a business right around the corner from where we were and I see him all the time too. We were blessed to have such superb coaches and I would say the same for every one of my teachers from elementary (except Mrs. Donahue and Mrs. Aurbach) right on through high school. To think of any of them abusing us in any way (other than Mrs. Donahue and Mrs. Aurbach, the old witch with her nasty nasty attitude) would be unthinkable. I can't even imagine what the children affected must go through.
